BLASTP matches and conserved gene order (synteny) have revealed 62% of C. briggsae genes to have orthologs in C. elegans. About 27% of C. briggsae genes have multiple matches in C. elegans genome and represent various gene families. Of the remaining 11% of genes, 7% have
very weak similarity to C. elegans (with a BLASTP E value of over 10-5), whereas 4% appear to be unique.
