Overlay heat map of the metabolite profiles. Logarithmically transformed (to base
2) averaged absolute values were used to plot the heat map. Red or blue color indicates
that the metabolite content is decreased or increased, respectively. For each sample,
gas chromatography/mass spectrometry was used to quantify 84 metabolites (nonredundant),
categorized into amino acids and their derivatives, polyamines, metabolites involved
in nucleotide related pathways, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, organic acids, phosphates,
and sugar and polyols. The m/z values given for each metabolite in parentheses are
the selective ions used for quantification. Highlighted black boxes indicate significant
changes in the metabolite level in the TCA cycle and the nucleotide related pathways
of the evolved lines. The internal standard ribitol metabolite level is also highlighted,
which is shown as control.
