For each protein, the best BLASTP hit to the non-redundant database, that is, the match with the lowest e-value, was recovered and the classification of the corresponding organism was extracted according to NCBI taxonomy. The central bar represents the full complement of annotated Ac genes exhibiting a best BLASTP hit respectively against the four kingdoms - Eukaryota (blue), Bacteria (red), Archaea (green) and viruses (purple) - with orphan genes depicted in yellow. Results for Eukaryota are subdivided according to the major taxonomic phyla in varying shades of blue.
