Effect of coverage and pool size on BC2F2 and BC3F2 backcross populations. (A) Pools of 3 to 70 BC2F2 individuals (colored blocks) were sequenced with increasing coverage ranging from
5x to 200x. For each combination of pool size and coverage we simulated 500 independent
populations and performed a mapping-by-sequencing analysis on each of them. Average
number of candidate mutations with one standard deviation is shown on the y-axis.
The initial number of mutations per genome was 1,400. (B) Outcome of the same analysis with BC3F2 recombinants.
