Many thanks for agreeing to contribute an article to Genome Biology. We want to make the submission process as easy as possible for you. 1. Instructions for Authors
For further information on manuscript formatting and details of the copyright agreement visit our Instructions for authors.

2. How to upload your manuscript
On the following pages, we will guide you through the various stages of uploading your manuscript files. Don't worry if you make a mistake, you can go back and amend your details using the buttons at the top of each page.

3. Acceptable manuscript formats
If your files are not in one of the following formats below please do not continue with your article submission. Contact the editorial office for further information.

  • Main manuscript
Formats: DOC, DOCX , PDF , RTF (rich text format) , TEX
Tables less than 2 pages (about 90 rows) should be included at the end of the manuscript. Longer tables should be submitted, and referred to in the text, as additional files. TeX files must use the BioMed Central TeX template.
  • Figure files
Formats: EPS , PDF (for line drawings) , PNG , TIFF (for photographs and screen dumps) , JPEG (for photographs and screen dumps) , BMP , DOC, DOCX , PPT, PPTX
Must be separate files, not embedded in the main manuscript. Genome Biology will edit all figures supplied by the author. For this reason it is especially important that authors should supply figures in vector form, to facilitate such editing.
  • Additional files
May be any standard type of file, eg. movies, datasets, large tables etc.
Files must be named with the three letter file extension appropriate to the file type (eg .pdf, .xls, .txt)
Additional material files should include necessary material that cannot be included in the PDF version of the published article, such as large datasets or movies . Tables should ordinarily be included in the manuscript file, unless they are exceptionally large (more than 2 manuscript pages or 90 rows). The manuscript file should include a short description of any additional files and software necessary to view them. If the manuscript is published, additional files will only be made available in exactly the same form as originally provided.
  • Please refer to the Instructions for Authors for further information about suitable file types.

    4. We kindly request you to review (and where necessary adjust) your SPAM filter settings before uploading your manuscript files.
In order to receive correspondence from reviewers, status updates, your galley proofs/author proofs etc, it is necessary to allow the following addresses (including our vendors at SPi and VTEX) access to your domain: @biomedcentral.com; @springeropen.com; @spi-global.com; @vtex.lt

    5. Article-processing charges
The publication costs for commissioned articles in Genome Biology are covered by the journal, so authors do not need to pay an article processing charge.
