Troubleshooting playback of movies using QuickTime
Old browser version
Playback of QuickTime movies within the web page is not supported very old browsers (e.g. Netscape 4 and older). This can be fixed by upgrading to a more recent browser version. Alternatively, the file can be saved to disk and then played.
QuickTime plug-in missing or out of date
Computer system asks to save movie, movie starts playing in a new window, or movie image is replaced by a white area.

Movie uses an unsupported codec
Browser displays message indicating that a missing component needs to be downloaded
Different movie files may use one of many different codecs to encode the content in a MOV, MPEG, MP4 or AVI file. If the appropriate codec is not present on your computer, QuickTime will need to download the codec. This should solve the problem.
Movie takes a long time to start playing
Movie image replaced by a white area. It takes a long time before the movie starts playing. The embedded movie is supposed to start playing before it is completely downloaded but the firewall of your network or your computer may prevent this if QuickTime is not configured correctly on your PC.

Player controls are missing
Users of Internet Explorer may find that if they refresh the web page, after starting a movie, the controls of the QuickTime player are missing.
This can be fixed by emptying the browser cache and refreshing the page again.
